Meet the Speakers…

Marc Hoover is the founder and creator of the Facebook group “Adventures In History”. He is a writer, photographer and scuba diver who loves history and the hobby of metal detecting. He lives in Altamonte Springs, Florida with his wife Gail. Marc’s motto is “Have Adventure Will Travel”. He will be talking about his award-winning article, “Tragedy, Triumph and Treasure” published in American Digger Magazine. The story features treasure hunter Jim Tippitt and the “Jimmy Crossbones Treasure”. On July 31st, 1715, a fleet of eleven Spanish galleons, laden with silver, gold and untold treasures sank off the southeast coast of Florida during a violent hurricane. In 2018, Jim Tippitt, aka Jimmy Crossbones recovered a small hoard of that treasure on the beach using his metal detector. Marc was one of fifty-two metal detectorists from around the world, recently featured in the book, “Beneath Our Feet – Volume 1” by author and fellow detectorist, Ken Cunliffe.  Available at www.amazon.com.

Marc will be joined by Gary Penta, the founder and creator of the website www.mydetecting.com. Gary is a military veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force.   Gary lives in Winter Gardens, Florida with his wife Kristina, also an Air Force veteran and their four children. He is an accomplished artist and is known worldwide for his miniature art. Gary is also a scuba diver who has worked with the 1715 fleet recovery boats. Gary will be sharing some of his stories as a diver with the fleet along with stories of diving for prehistoric megalodons shark teeth. Gary will be creating unique art for the Moon Lake Gathering and may even have a few surprises.

Marc and Gary are always looking for the next adventure and are excited to be attending the Moon Lake Gathering with fellow adventurers and treasure hunters.

Meet the breakout session instructors…

Daryl Wilson Is a legendary researcher of the elusive Bigfoot. He has interviewed thousands of people focusing on Sasquatch and other paranormal creatures including Giants, Little People, Skin Walkers, UFOS, and UFO abductions. Daryl began interviewing people about their out of body experiences when he was 21. His passion is to hear people’s incredible stories. And to give those who have had incredible experiences a platform where they can share and not be mocked.

While on a trip to Alaska 11 years ago, he had a legendary sighting of a 9-foot Bigfoot.

That is what really launched him into gathering other people’s stories. Bigfoot turned Daryl’s life upside down! Daryl has spoken at the legendary paranormal conference called Phenomecon in Vernal Utah. He also spoken at the Moon Lake Gathering held in Altamont Utah. Daryl was the grand finale speaker for the movie documentary, A Flash of Beauty Bigfoot Revealed.

For 11 years Daryl has been interviewing and recording stories. In trying to put this magnificent puzzle together, Daryl said that the puzzle always keeps getting bigger.

David Bullock began his mining career at the age of four. Punished by his Mother for climbing a tree, which his mother forbid him to climb, he disobeyed her and was caught among the high branches and was ordered to get down right now. He blurted out a swear word, which caused his mother to faint on the porch. His punishment was to go to work with his father, a miner. David loved the mountain mining lifestyle and was hired as a rail keeper in the Syndicate Mine at an affordable wage of 10 cents a day insuring no rocks were fallen on the mine rails.

He became a certified miner years later at the age of 14 and continued mining alongside his father until his fathers death many years later.

David became a professional storyteller, emphasizing his experiences growing up as a Hard rock miner and treasure hunter.

David lives on the West Slope of the Uinta Mountains, where he continues to search for the elusive treasures once found by Spanish explorers.

He was raised on the dream of striking it rich, finding gold and silver in the rugged mountains of Utah. Eventually, he did discover the treasure he was searching for and shares his wealth with his Wife, in the beauty of the Far East of the Wasatch Back.

Bill Betenson grew up hearing family stories around the campfire about his famous uncle Robert LeRoy Parker, better known as the outlaw Butch Cassidy. Betenson has spent decades asking questions about the life and exploits of Butch Cassidy. He presents new details, raises questions, challenges old assumptions, and presents informed interpretations.

Betenson has tracked down old accounts, descendants of Butch’s cohorts, records from dusty courthouses, and seldom seen photographs. He has traveled all over the West and visited Argentina to stand in the doorway of the cabin where Butch, Sundance, and Etta lived.
Bill Betenson has a passion for Western Americana and family history. He enjoys traveling and researching places where Butch Cassidy spent time and “did time” over one hundred years ago. He especially appreciates the people he’s met and the friendships he’s made along the way. Bill enjoys speaking and writing on Butch. He published his first book, “Butch Cassidy, My Uncle” in 2012 and a second in 2020 called, “Butch Cassidy, The Wyoming Years”. He has also written several articles and has appeared in several TV documentaries on his great uncle.

Utahna Jessop is a writer, field rep, and copy editor for Ancient American Magazine, a trustee for the Ancient Historical Research Foundation, and teaches Book of Mormon history.  She has a particular interest in historical archaeology and ancient inscriptions, has participated in archaeological digs, and has given firesides on Native American history and prophecy, ancient cultures, petroglyphs, and the Book of Mormon. Utahna loves all things ancient, reading, researching, hiking, and exploring the great outdoors.

Kent Smith became interested in old and ancient things at about the age of 5 years old. He started with Indian petroglyphs and stories about the Indians. His family moved from Monticello when he was 5 and ended up in Maeser (a suburb of Vernal, Utah) where he spent most of his growing up, youth years. In 1960, while playing games with a friend down the street, he found his first treasure. The treasure consisted of 21 coins, a solid gold medal (depicting the birth of Christ, with a ruby for the new star), a lot of bones, and several buckles. He was hooked!! For the next 64 years he researched and looked for treasure and he is still looking. His idea of what treasure is has changed many times over the years. He has, in his life, collected many photos, hundreds of stories (including 18 diaries of information), and, two boxes full of original maps to different treasures. Terry Carter interviews him quite a bit (check out his YouTube channel) and he always laughs when Terry calls him a ‘National Treasure’. He has had countless numbers of people ask him to write some books and he has started 2 different books and talked with 2 different publishers. The publishers have looked at his information and told him that he had enough information for 7 books (they saw less than half of the information that Kent has). Good luck looking!!!

Otto Hildebrandt drives semi trucks for a living. He was gifted ‘The Gift of Dowsing’. Every weekend he journies to find new discoveries that are from our past history of this planet. The journeys are just fascinating.

Robert Kryder has spent most of his life in the Southwest regions of the country as an adventurer/ explorer specializing in research and recovery projects of various forms including ancient treasures & mines, above and below ground megalithic sites, gems & minerals, dinosaurs & forensic evidence/ field research of cryptids. Robert also specializes in various technologies like subsurface imaging with his services being utilized by private, academic, Gov and law enforcement agencies.

Robert is also an inventor, designer and builder of custom equipment specially suited for tactical op’s and paranormal research and specializes in high end, long distance audio sampling such as the well known KXPD3, as seen on the TV show Expedition Bigfoot.

Dan Dillman is the third-generation of Dillman treasure hunters. His grandfather Raymond always believed Dan was destined for greatness. Dan was born with six fingers on both hands which in ancient cultures granted the individual exalted status in life and death. When his uncle Paul was rushed to the hospital last year, he asked Dan to go to his house to collect all of his boxes of research, including tapes and maps that Dan had never seen before. On Paul’s deathbed, Dan promised his uncle that he would continue the family mission. Now, with his uncle’s recent passing, Dan feels immediate pressure to make some major discoveries over the next 12 months. Dan feels he may be the last hope for anyone to find Montezuma’s treasure and is committed to do whatever it takes to keep his grandfather’s dream alive. He wants to show the world that the Dillmans are “The Chosen Ones”.

There are bathrooms in the park located on the southwest side of the pavillions, and there are porta-potties along the north side as well.

There is NO CAMPING OR OVERNIGHTING anywhere near the park
